1. 'Live Long and Prosper'

2. 'Beam Me Up, Scotty'

The phrase is a spin on the words uttered by Captain Kirk to Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott or ‘Scotty’ to transport them back to the USS Enterprise. The actual command spoken in the series was ‘Beam them up’ or ‘Beam us up, Scotty’.

Some Trekkies believe it was inspired by a press booklet about a space programme, while others claim it was a quote by James Cook. Regardless of its origins, this line is a significant and inseparable part of the series, quoted in almost every Star Trek movie and TV series.

This quote is attributed to ‘Scotty’, or Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, who explains to Captain Kirk that he’s been trying all he can to apply more power to the USS Enterprise’s shields. However, Scotty has been misquoted as he actually said, ‘Giving them all we got’ in response to the captain.
